How to defeat Aberax in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is full of dangerous bosses. Aberax is the first of them, working for Cylax and attacking Samus on the planet Tanamaar. While he’s easier than the subsequent enemies, he requires skill to overcome.

The fight begins with Aberax firing a volley of yellow plasma from his shoulder cannons. These shots deal little damage and are easily dodged by locking on and moving to the side .

Vulnerable points

The enemy uses yellow shields on his arms to cover glowing green weak points on his upper body. To deal significant damage, rather than just slowly chip away at his health, you need to destroy these weak points .

Attacking them isn’t easy—you’ll have to make heavy use of your free aim . Fortunately, it doesn’t take many hits to destroy them, which will expose a weak spot on Aberax’s abdomen.

The enemy will constantly move their shields, so try to attack different weak points whenever possible.

Combat tactics

At the beginning of the game, Aberax throws several glowing green spheres . These can be destroyed with a shot to obtain additional missiles and health packs . These attacks, like many others, are easily avoided.

Once the vulnerable spot on the abdomen is exposed, Aberax moves on to new attacks:

  • A quick beam from the belly.
  • An area-of-effect jumping attack that must be dodged by jumping into the air or turning into a morph ball .

The key is to keep moving and inflict as much damage as possible on the weak spot . It’s recommended to fire a few regular shots from the Arm Cannon, then launch one or two missiles. When the health bar is reduced by a quarter, Aberax will summon three more Metroids into his body and enter the second phase .

Golden barriers will occasionally appear at vulnerable points. These can be destroyed with regular fire or missiles, rewarding you with ammo or health orbs.

The key to success in this stage is to keep your distance and attack continuously . If Aberax gets too close to Samus at the edge of the arena, he’ll use his rocket boosters to return to the center and continue attacking.

In the second and third phases, Aberax will begin using an area-of-effect attack that must be dodged with a double jump . It doesn’t deal massive damage, but missing it repeatedly will result in a quick death.

In the final phase, you must destroy four separate weak points while dodging faster and more varied attacks. The principle of victory remains the same: dodge, deal damage, and pick up health packs or ammo .

Remember that holding the fire button allows you to pull in nearby objects. This can be a lifesaver on higher difficulties.

In the final phase, Aberax will develop a habit of grabbing Samus . To free himself, quickly press the “A” button . After escaping, the battle will resume as normal.

Eventually, if you hold out, Aberax will fall, at which point Sylax will burst into the building, attempting to steal Lamor’s ancient artifact.
