Unlocking the new characters—the Scholar and the Undertaker—in the Nightreign expansion for Elden Ring is fairly simple, though the path to them isn’t obvious. You’ll need to complete a few steps, but it only takes a few minutes if you know where to go. Here’s how to unlock these characters for play.
How to access the Scientist and Undertaker
To unlock the Scientist and Undertaker in The Forsaken Hollows DLC, follow these steps:
- Make sure The Forsaken Hollows add-on is downloaded and installed.
- After loading into the Round Table hub location, the Iron Servant will immediately approach you and inform you that the Small Pot Merchant is agitated about something.
- Head to the Small Pot Market. The merchant will point to a door next to him.
- Go through this door and you will be transported to the arena to face the boss, Lord of Sediment.
- This fight is unwinnable. Lord Sediment will likely kill you in one hit, so don’t try to win.
- After death, you’ll respawn at the Round Table. Return to the door next to the Small Pot Market—it’ll now be open.
- Inside, you’ll find a chapel with two NPCs—the Scholar and the Undertaker. Talk to them both to unlock them as playable characters.
- From now on, you will be able to select any of them in the character selection menu.
These two classes are quite unique: the Scholar is an item-focused support class that uses piercing swords, while the Undertaker is an aggressive Strength/Faith build that bludgeons enemies into submission with hammers. It’s recommended to test out their abilities in the Training Grounds before venturing out into the dangerous world.
